This
course will introduce students to the application of mathematical methods to
biological and medical problems. Project teams will be made up of students with
varied backgrounds -- some in mathematics, some in biology, some in chemistry. Student teams will develop, evaluate, and
present mathematical models of biological, medical, and biochemical systems. Biological systems
considered will include ecology, epidemiology (including issues of national
security), enzyme kinetics, and the chemostat.
This course can satisfy the
requirement for a Capstone Experience in the Mathematics Major. It can also satisfy the requirement for
Related Studies in the Biology Major and the Chemistry Major, and the
Supporting Disciplines Elective in the Biochemistry Major.
